Fiction: The Writers Studio

Lucinda Holt is the managing editor of Sex, Etc., a national magazine and Web site, written by teens for teens on sexuality and sexual health. Her essay “To Shame I Say, ‘No, Thank You’” appeared in the anthology What Your Mama Never Told You: True Stories about Sex and Love. Lucinda is currently working on a collection of short stories.

Michele Herman In addition to teaching beginning fiction online, Michele Herman has published fiction in a variety of journals including The Sun, ACM and Columbia: A Journal of Literature and Art. Her personal essays have appeared in The Villager, Lilith and The New York Times, and her feature articles in a variety of national magazines including Metropolis and Photo District News. She had a short story in the summer 2007 issue of Proof magazine, and has a long personal essay coming out in the March issue of The Sun. She lives in Greenwich Village with her husband and two sons, and is active in neighborhood issues.

She'll be reading from a novel called Save the Village.

Therese Eiben's nonfiction and fiction have appeared in Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, Fortune, The Alaska Quarterly Review, and as a radio play on the BBC, Radio 4. She is the co-editor of The Practical Writer: From Inspiration to Publication (Penguin 2004) and was formerly the editor of Poets & Writers magazine.

She'll be reading from a story called "Hansel and Grendel."

Joel Hinman was a film producer for many years, starting with the Maysles. Right now he teaches fiction and poetry at The Writers Studio. He is married and lives in New York City. He volunteers as a community mediator in the South Bronx at IMCR where he is on the Board of Directors. His story "Minuteman" appeared in the Winter 2008 issue of Epiphany.

He will be reading a piece called "Collection Room 4."
