Come for the talent.  Stay for the camaraderie and cocktails.

Devon Gallegos studied at the University of Southern California before coming to New York for his MFA in fiction. His book-in-everlasting-progress, Bite Together, describes how one acquires and accumulates nookie online, how cell phone conversations are inferior analog ones, and how many varieties and curvatures of intimacy one can maintain before one goes bat-scheisse.

Abby Caran is working on a collection of short stories entitled Daughters of the Republic, which follows people and their animals under barns, in cars and in caves across the landscapes of Texas, where she grew up. She was nominated for inclusion in Best New American Voices 2009 and lives with her own animals in New York City.

Yvette Siegert is a poet whose work is concerned with space, politics and translation. Her writing has appeared, among other places, in Chelsea and The New Yorker, where she is on the editorial staff.

What is Faculty Selects?  The first Thursday of each month the Columbia MFA program will again host the reading series Faculty Selects started by professor Binnie Kirschenbaum. Three former students selected by the faculty will read each time. These young writers have finished their coursework and are finished with or near to finished with their first books, but do not yet have a book contract and/or an agent. This is an opportunity to showcase some of our best writers to you.

Faculty Selects is curated by Columbia Writing Division graduates Elyssa East and Bryan Van Dyke
